Three weeks after the death of former One Direction member, Argentine authorities have ruled that he died by suicide and charged three individuals in connection with the incident. The 31-year-old singer fell from the third-floor balcony of his Buenos Aires hotel room on October 16, suffering multiple injuries and bleeding.
An autopsy confirmed that the injuries were not self-inflicted nor caused by a physical altercation. Prior to the fall, hotel staff at Casa Sur had expressed concerns to police about an "aggressive man" possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol. A toxicology report later confirmed multiple substances in his system at the time of death.
Although the three suspects have not been publicly identified, they face charges of "leaving a person to die" and "facilitating drug use." They have been banned from leaving the country, but no arrests have been made. One of the accused had a close working relationship with the singer, another is a hotel staff member, and the third is accused of providing drugs before his death.
