US analysts report charges in assumed Iranian plot to kill Trump
US Charges Farhad Shakeri and Two Others for Alleged Iranian Plot to Kill Donald Trump,

US authorities have filed charges against Farhad Shakeri and two other individuals in connection with an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate Donald Trump before the upcoming presidential election.

Background of the Alleged Plot

According to the US Department of Justice, the plot was likely orchestrated by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as retaliation for the killing of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani in a US drone strike in 2020, which was ordered by then-President Trump.

Details of the Charges

In a statement, the DOJ revealed that Shakeri had informed law enforcement that he was tasked on October 7, 2024, with carrying out a plan to kill Trump. However, Shakeri allegedly told authorities that he had no intention of executing the assassination within the IRGC's timeframe.

The DOJ described Shakeri, 51, as an IRGC operative residing in Tehran. It stated that he immigrated to the US as a teenager but was deported around 2008 due to a robbery conviction. Shakeri is currently at large and believed to be in Iran.

The charges against Shakeri and his co-conspirators include conspiracy to commit murder.
